20 Y.O., the 9th studio album from icon Janet Jackson, is turning 15 years old. It was originally released September 20, 2006 by Virgin Records. The title itself is a reference commemorating the 20th anniversary of her third studio album Control.
The album was mostly R&B and Dance focused with a heavy imprint from producer Jermaine Dupri who was also her boyfriend at the time. 20 Y.O. only peaked at #56 on the RMNZ albums chart and featured a Top 20 single.
“Call On Me” was the albums lead single and featured rapper Nelly. The video was directed by Hype Williams and is reportedly one of the most expensive music videos of all time with production costs over a million dollars. It’s rumoured that the video was blacklisted by MTV because of her infamous Super Bowl halftime show incident in 2004. “Call On Me” peaked at #11 here in NZ on the Top 40.
The albums 2nd and final single featured rapper Khia and was called “So Excited”. While “Call On Me” was more of a ballad “So Excited” was definitely a dance track.
You can always count on Janet to deliver at least one good sexy bedroom jam on her albums and 20 Y.O. is no exception. While “Take Care” wasn’t released as a single it’s def a track off the project you should be aware of, check out and add to your slow jam playlist.
