Streaming services have been a great addition to the music industry. They pretty much offer anyone and anything you want to listen to at a given time. There are some circumstances though where material from an artist may not be available. One of the biggest examples of this has been Aaliyah.
Outside of her 1994 debut album Age Ain't Nothing But A Number the rest of her catalogue isn't available for streaming, this includes her defining One In A Million, self-titled project and posthumous release I Miss You. What this means is there is low-key a generation of folks who don't know why many who grew up in the 90s and 00s hold her in such high regard as an artist.
Blackground Records is the label currently overseeing the rights to Aaliyah's catalogue and for a variety of complicated and messy reasons has not released her music on streaming platforms. They have been teasing for about a year now that it would change that.
Today we seemed to get another hint that this could change shortly with the launch of a mysterious new website and social media accounts with the hashtag #AaliyahIsComing.
We'll just have to wait and see what this all means but hopefully it leads to what a lot of fans have been asking for.... Aaliyah's music.
