While still dealing with the loss of one icon the Hip-Hop community has to mourn another rapper who has passed. Robert Ross better known as Black Rob died April 17 in Atlanta, Georgia. He had been dealing with a variety of health issues including lupus, kidney failure, diabetes, and had suffered multiple strokes. He was 52 years old.
Black Rob grew up in East Harlem and was inspired to rap by artists including Spoonie Gee, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick. He initially rapped under the alias Bacardi Rob with his first group, the Schizophrenics.
Black Rob is best known for his time with Bad Boy Records during the 90s which saw him featured on a variety of label releases with Total, Faith Evans, and Mase. His breakout would come in 2000 with the release of his debut album Life Story and its hit single "Whoa."
He also had a verse on P. Diddy's "Bad Boy For Life" track in 2001.
The Bad Boy Records founder paid tribute to his former artist with an Instagram post.
