Cassie is the self-titled and to this date only studio album from singer Cassie Ventura, better known simply as Cassie. She is more known for her modeling and past relationship with Diddy. This album was released while she was signed to his label Bad Boy Records.
A model since the age of 14 Cassie was discovered by producer Ryan Leslie. He would write and produce the majority of the album including the first single "Me & U." The music video was inspired by the video for Janet Jackson's song "The Pleasure Principle" as Cassie is a self-described diehard Janet fan. "Me & U" would end up a Top 5 hit in New Zealand peaking at #4
The second single from the project was "Long Way 2 Go." Cassie explains that the song is about "a guy who is trying to get with me but he's got a long way to go." It would be her second Top 20 hit in New Zealand peaking at #17.
An album cut we want to highlight would be "Kiss Me." It is certainly representative of a sound and vibe that was trendy among some female artists during the mid to late 2000s. It was also one of the first songs done by Leslie and Cassie.
Following some live performances in support of the album that were described as "rocky" and "less-than-stellar" there were rumours that she was dropped from Bad Boy. Diddy disputed the rumours and even said Cassie was working on a second album with Kanye West and Pharrell Williams as producers.
Several songs were released in the following years but nothing was attached to a project. To date Cassie remains her only studio release. Take a trip back to the mid-2000s with Cassie for it's 15th anniversary!
