It is official, Aaliyahs catalogue will be available for streaming on DSPs for everyone to listen to! Blackground Records, which was founded by Aaliyah's uncle, who has been holding the rights to the collection has put things in motion for the music to be available on all major digital streaming platforms and for physical albums to be sold once again.
Fans have been asking for this for decades and they will finally have their wishes answered. Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah's uncle, has secured a partnership with music company EMPIRE that will make the entire Blackground catalog available. It's not just Aaliyah but 17 albums from artists including Timbaland & Magoo, Tank, Toni Braxton and Jojo. It has been over a decade since fans have had access to some of these projects.
The rollout won't just be a one date release for the catalogue. Albums will be dropped between now and October. Here is a calendar of what is to come:
20 August: Aaliyah One In a Million
27 August: The complete Timbaland & Magoo Collection Welcome To Our World / Indecent Proposal / Tim Bio / Under Construction
3 September: Romeo Must Die Soundtrack / Exit Wounds Soundtrack
