Social media really does provide some of the best material and inspiration these days. Look no further than the latest release, "Bow Wow Challenge," from Aotearoa-based Samoan songstress Disciple Pati.
For those who are wondering, the bow wow challenge as a 2017 social media trend which involved sharing a picture that gave off a misleading impression. This started after the rapper Bow Wow shared a picture implying he was travelling on a private jet. A fan called him out on the picture discovering the rapper was really in economy class on a commercial plane.
Featuring Tamaki rapper PollyHill, Disciple Pati doesn't continue the roast from 5 years ago. She rather takes a dive into the experience of the facade many try to put up on social media. The songstress revealed that she dealt with some imposter syndrome and shame after the release of her song "The Boy Who Cried Woman."
"I felt as though a lot of my artistry was a Bow Wow challenge," says Pati in a YouTube description note "on the outside it looked like it was this really cool, big awesome thing, and that I was this singer who was good at music and gigging with a band/doing little covers on social media - and I was gonna "make" it. But the majority of the time I didn't feel like I deserved the title of being an artist. I never felt like anything I did was ever good enough."
Her new song "Bow Wow Challenge" is relevant commentary on trends of today and simply stands out as a unique piece of art.
