The highly anticipated collaborative LP, Cheers to the Best Memories, from dvsn and Ty Dolla $ign is now available. With bangers like "Memories" and "I Believed It," the full project cements their team up as a textured, visionary and sometimes dark take on R&B.
Cheers to the Best Memories is full of intricate, otherworldly arrangements and intensely emotional vocals. "Memories" is the an obvious standout that shows the duo's breadth and depth. The track showcases attention to detail. Sampling the 1992 bedroom jam "Freak Me" from Silk, it's a sex-dripping slow jam that provides the perfect base for Ty Dolla $igns honeyed vocals.
The album covers rich, diverse ground sonically and topically. "Don't Say A Word" is a sultry song about keeping it on the down-low but then you have "Somebody That You Don't Know" serving up vacation vibes alongside a Spanish guitar and a demobow beat. The duo then take a page from the begging playbook and show they aren't too proud apologise on "Fight Club."
Cheers to the Best Memories also includes the stirring "I Believed It" featuring the late Mac Miller which was released last month. The track is equally thrilling and heartbreaking, a captivating performance but a reminder of the talent lost in Miller.
"I Believe It" and the whole album in general are indicative of the powerful songs dvsn and Ty Dolla $ign are capable of, proving that they're some of contemporary R&B's most direct writers.
