This weekend marked the 15th anniversary for the debut studio album from rapper Yung Joc New Joc City. The album is responsible for 3 singles, most notoriously the debut single of Yung Joc "It's Goin' Down" and its accompanying motor cycle dance.
Video features included an unknown Lil Duval, rapper Killer Mike and two members of the R&B group Cherish. The song was produced by Nitti who also made an apperance and featured his production signature "this is a Nitti beat" at the beginning of the song. "It's Goin' Down" was one of the heights of the snap moment being featured in hip-hop music coming primarily out of the southern United States. Other popular artists in snap included D4L and Dem Franchize Boys. The song was nominated for Rap song of the year at the 2007 Grammys and won Hip-Hop Track of the Year at the 2006 BET Awards.
The 2nd single released from the album was "I Know You See It." It didn't gain as much success as "It's Goin' Down" but as a highlight the video was premiered on the MTV show Making The Video. The 3rd single "1st Time" saw Yung Joc link up with Trey Songz and Marques Houston.
Overall the album holds mixed reviews. Listening to it certainly puts you instantly in the late 2000s. Not to say its simply dated but it is definitely reflective of the era especially with the fashion. Take a trip back to when snap and crunk hip-hop was king with the debut album New Joc City from Yung Joc on it's 15th anniversary.
