Donda, the highly anticipated 10th studio album from Kanye West, is now available for streaming on DSPs. Originally supposed to have released in July 2020 and after many delays and pushbacks the artist has randomly dropped it over the weekend.
The 27 track project is named after Kanyes' late mother Dr Donda West. It contains over 30 features including Jay-Z, Don Toliiver, The Weeknd, Da Baby, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Pop Smoke, Travis Scott and many many more. A variety of producers also collaborated on the album.
It's not all good news though, Kanye has posted on his IG that Universal has released the album without his consent.
We've given the album a once through and it's all over the place. Between all the features and the amount of producers who had a hand in crafting the sonics it doesn't seem to have a definitive direction. And to be honest it doesn't exactly sound finished yet. There have been rumours that Kanye would provide a way for listeners/fans to tweak the album in their own way but that remains to see if it will be fully realised.
Some tracks seem to just go on and on and others just come and go far to quickly. There are some fire verses from the features Donda bounces back and forth between good and bad, We will certainly have to give it some more listens to truly gather a sense of what it is. Currently we simply just don't know.
And it's not a quick listen either. The 27 tracks clock in at 1 hour and 48 minutes. You can give the album a listen here to come up with your own conclusions.
