The debut self-titled solo album from LeToya Luckett is turning 15. Songs on the album would deal with the singers time away from the music industry, her dismissal from Destiny's Child and all the struggles she went through to put out a solo project.
There is a little bit of debate over what LeToya's first real single was but there is no question that the official first single from the album is "Torn." It found some moderate success here in NZ peaking at #28 on the Top 40 singles chart.
"She Don't was featured as the albums second single. And while none of the other songs would find the same success LeToya had with "Torn" they would all support what has been viewed in the R&B community as a strong debut album. in the US the album would debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and be certified platinum by the end of the year. The album would not chart here in New Zealand.
"Obvious" was slated to be the third single from the album. It had high hopes of being a hit but was hindered due to the merger of Capitol Records and Virgin Records occurring during her album run. All funding for the project was frozen until the merger was completed. LeToya wasn't the only artist affected. Janet Jackson, Chingy and Cherish who were all working albums during the same period faced similar issues. This led to singles like "Obvious" not being officially released or getting an accompanying video or any promotion.
LeToya Luckett was pinned by multiple outlets as a breakout artist and one of the best for 2006. Rediscover or experience for the first time why with her solo debut on its 15th anniversary.
