Mary Wilson died Monday night in the comfort of her home at the age of 76. She was apart of the original trio of members that formed The Supremes. Along with Florence Ballard and Diana Ross The Supremes would become one of the premier acts of the iconic Motown Records in the 1960s. They were one of the most commercially successful acts of the label and still reign as one of the most successful vocal groups of all-time.
Motown founder Berry Gordy credited the Supremes with opening the door for other Motown acts. "I was always proud of Mary," he said. "She was quite a star in her own right, and over the years continued to work hard to boost the legacy of the Supremes."
When the group disbanded in 1977 Wilson was the only original member still with the group. All three original members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
