Michael Jackson's iconic video for his single "Billie Jean" crossed the 1 billion views threshold on YouTube this month. It becomes his first video to join the Billion Views Club.
"Billie Jean" was the second single of Jackson's 1982 record setting album Thriller. To this day it remains the best-selling album of all time globally. The music video was one of the first videos by a black artist to be aired regularly on MTV.
The video is only the third music video from the 1980s to garner 1 billion views. The others include Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine" and a-ha's "Take on Me." Of the three and in general "Billie Jean" is the oldest music video to reach the threshold.
This accomplishment comes as we prepare to celebrate the late King of Pops 50th Anniversary of being a solo singer in October of this year.
