The Panthers is a new series on TVNZ which goes back to the 1970's and and explores the injustices experienced by Pasifika people in Aotearoa, like the dawn raids which were just received a long anticipated formal apology from the government. It follows the Polynesian Panther Party which sought to protect the Polynesian community from racial discrimination, prejudice and social inequality.
Music is a part of any good project and The Panthers is supported by a 13-track compilation of original music by Troy Kingi, choicevaughn, Diggy Dupe. It features a pleathora of Aotearoa Polynesian artists like Che Fu, MELODOWNZ, Sam V. Jarna, Deadforest and more.
The music is a great mix of the sonics and soul feeling of the 70s with contemporary Hip-Hop and R&B elements.
The soundtrack is worth listening to as a quality project in it's own right. Add on to it the importance of the story from the series and the music comes alive even more.
