After an impressive re-introduction of himself on NPR's Tiny Desk Shelley FKA DRAM has also dropped a full album. The self-titled album includes features from H.E.R., Summer Walker, and Erykah Badu. It will certainly complete the re-introduction he started on Tiny Desk. Fans def noticed the grown and sexy vibe coming from the noticeably slimmer singer.
An intervention from his team in January 2020 led to Shelley going sober. To paint a picture of how his life was going he stated his time on tour with Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott in 2017 was a blur.
"It' really started to feel like a blur, and then like, it was a lot of drugs involved," says Shelley. "And then when the dust settles, you're like, what happened? When I'm talking about not being able to really remember what just happened last year."
Shelley has shared that it has been the support form his family, girlfriend and team that has helped him get his new life in order. Another part of that was the name change. He made the decision to go from his former stage name of DRAM to his government name to help reshape his image. That image is certainly of a grown man. The music on his new project is a direct reflection of that.
"I wanted the project to feel like 1981, in 2021," he explained.
