The two year legal battle between Tracy Chapman and Nicki Minaj has come to an end with the singer accepting a $450,000 settlement from the rap icon.
It all started when Chapman sued Minaj in 2018 for her song "Sorry" which uses parts of her 1988 track "Baby Can I Hold You". The rap icon originally though she was borrowing from Shelly Thunder's reggae hit also titled "Sorry". That song sampled elements from Chapman's song also.
"As a song writer and independent publisher, I have been known to be protective of my work. I have never authorized the use of my songs for samples or requested a sample. This lawsuit was a last resort-pursued in an effort to defend myself and my work and to seek protection fo the create enterprise and expression of songwriters and independent publishers like myself," says Chapman.
